According to a 2007 International Council for Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) report , in 2007 the City of Charlottesville’s energy use was estimated at 7,242,636 MMBTUs, the equivalent of 944,373 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
Charlottesville’s per capita household energy use is 180 MMBTUs, equivalent to 21.4 metric tons of CO2 emissions per person per year. The ICLEI report predicts total energy use to rise 33% by 2025 given current trends.
